Croeso, and welcome back to school after a long lockdown! We’ve really missed all of the children and are very glad to be back in school!

It’s wonderful to be back in the classroom, and we very much hope our ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’ topic this half-term will engage the children and capture their attention and imagination! Through this topic we will explore the human digestive system, learn all about different food groups and the importance of eating a balanced diet, discover where different foods come from, as well as exploring Fairtrade and food miles!

Please remember to follow all of the exciting activities and class adventures through Seesaw!

If you have any concerns regarding how your child is getting on – please do not hesitate to contact us via Seesaw or through the school office.

Mrs Dowsett and Miss Greenaway

Here is some general information about our class.

Literacy, Language & Communication

In KS2 we follow the ‘Read, Write, Ink’ Spelling scheme, which focuses on the sounds and blends of letters. Pupils will complete a range of activities throughout the week to reinforce the spelling pattern and will be tested every Monday. Spelling words will be sent home via Seesaw every Monday.

Reading books will be sent home on the day your child has guided reading with the teacher (this is written on the front cover of their reading record). Please can you ensure your child’s reading book and reading diary are returned to school by the following week. Comments recorded on the reading record activity on Seesaw are really important and help us to support your child’s reading development at home as well as in school. We hear children read throughout the week, either as part of a guided reading group or individually.

Please note, only books that have been returned, will be changed.

Mathematics & Numeracy

Your child will have games and activities allocated to them via the Active Learn platform. They have already been issued with a log in and password so that they can access the portal at home. Please get in touch if your child requires new log in information. We will continue to focus on times-tables throughout the year. Children are also encouraged to practise these facts at home and use the Times Table Rockstars online program at home as well as in school. Again, children have log in and password information to access the program.

Home School Learning

We are giving all pupils a Home School book which will have a half-termly grid of home learning suggestions. There are a choice of 9 activities, one to be completed each weekend. There is also a password holder page, which has all the passwords your child will need to access their learning from home.

We continue to use Seesaw as a secure online learning journal where children can create and
upload their work to document their learning. Your child will add photos,
videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings to their individual Seesaw journal, and you are able to view these via your Seesaw family account. Seesaw journals are private and only accessible by the
teacher, students, and parents. It is a requirement of Seesaw’s terms and conditions that we gain parental permission to use their platform. Seesaw has a thoroughly robust privacy policy and has committed never to share your child’s personal information or journal content. We hope that your child will enjoy using Seesaw to document and share their learning this year.

You can learn more about Seesaw by visiting

Please note, this is not a platform for parents to discuss any issues or concerns they may be having. This can be done through contacting the school by phone or email.

Additional Information

It is really important for children to bring a bottle of water to school with them everyday. Children will also need to return their reading book and reading record on their allocated guided reading day (this will be written on their reading record).
