Croseo i’r Blwyddyn 2 !
Welcome to Year 2 !

Meet the team

Welcome to Year 2. We hope your child has settled well into the new school year and is excited about the year ahead.

We are thrilled to have your child in our class and we believe that by working together we will make this a happy and successful school year filled with lots of learning and laughter.

Reading books and reading records will be sent home on a Friday and will need to be returned to school by the following Wednesday at the latest. If your child receives a daily reading book, please ensure it is returned to school in the wallet. Once the book has been returned a new book will be issued. We cannot issue new reading books until the previous books have been returned to school.

Differentiated spelling lists are provided fortnightly for the children to learn. They will be tested on a Friday. We recommend that children practise these spellings for 5 minutes each day to ensure they are familiar with them.

Your child will have access to interactive maths activities that support their learning in school via the Abacus websites. Log in and password details for these resources are located on the front inside cover of your child’s reading record.

General information

The School Day

The children will be expected to line up in the yard outside the yellow gate in front of their classroom at 8:50am promptly and are to be collected at 3:20pm from outside their classroom. Please bear with us at the end of the day for the first few weeks whilst we dismiss the children It may take us a few weeks to recognise faces and who to safely dismiss your child to.

We would encourage your child to bring in a piece of fruit to eat morning break time. Please label your child’s fruit. As you can imagine we sometimes have up to 20 bananas and apples in our fruit tray.

Water Bottles

We encourage your child to bring in a water bottle to school each day in order for the children to have access to water throughout the day. Please ensure water bottles are clearly labelled with their name and class and it is to be taken home daily to be cleaned.

Our P.E sessions will be on a Thursday this term. Please can you ensure your child wears or brings appropriate P.E. clothes to school. All jewellery needs to be removed and long hair should be tied back. Please remember to label all clothing that is worn to school, especially school jumpers, hoodies or cardigans. We will also take part in the ‘healthy hike’ challenge a minimum of 2/3 times a week.

Outdoor Learning

The children will need to bring a suitable coat/waterproof jacket to school every day. The children have access to rich learning outdoor opportunities and challenges daily, as we believe learning in the outdoors provides relevance and depth to the curriculum in ways that are difficult to achieve indoors.

Kind Crew

Your child has the opportunity to be part of the Kind Crew in Year 2. They will receive appropriate training and will be on duty once a week in the Foundation Phase yard.

Finally, we look forward to working together with you and your child to ensure your child has a happy and fun filled year which is rich in learning opportunities and experiences.

Thank you in anticipation of your support,

Mrs Morgan, Mr Algie and Mrs Davies
