Croeso i’r Dosbarth Ceirw !
Welcome to the Deer Class!

Meet the team

Croeso and welcome back to what promises to be a busy and fun-filled Spring Term, with lots of exciting learning activities to explore linked to our new topics.

What a busy term we are going to have, as we begin our topics by researching and learning about Wild and Wonderful Wales and the Digestive System, with a ‘Dazzle day’ to Techniquest to take part in the interactive ‘Yucky You’ workshop. The children have already got lots of ideas they would like to explore, which are displayed on our class EPIC board.

Please remember to follow our class blog to find out more about our exciting learning adventures.

If you have any concerns regarding how your child is getting on – please do not hesitate to contact us or speak to us at the end of the day.

Mrs Dowsett and Miss Greenaway

Here is some general information about our class.

Literacy, Language & Communication

Read, write, Inc

We are a Read Write Inc. school. We teach Read Write Inc. phonics to all children. We also follow the RWI spelling scheme that supports your child when learning to read, write and spell words. Spelling words will be sent home every Monday, with a test on the following Monday

Reading books will be sent home on the day your child has guided reading with the teacher (this is written on the front cover of their reading record). Please can you ensure your child’s reading book and reading diary are returned to school by the following week. Comments recorded in your child’s reading diary are important and help us to support you with helping your child’s reading

development at home as well as in school. We hear children read throughout the week, either as part of a guided reading group or individually.

Please note, only books that have been returned, will be changed.

Mathematics & Numeracy

Your child will have homework allocated to them via the Active Learn website every Friday. They have already been issued with a log in and password so that they can access the portal at home. If your child requires new log in information, please get in touch. We will continue to focus on times-tables throughout the year. Children are also encouraged to practise these facts at home and use the Times Table Rockstars online program at home as well as in school. Again, children have log in and password information to access the program

Additional Information

Please note, children should bring a bottle of water to school with them everyday. Children will also need to return their reading book and reading record on their allocated guided reading day (this will be written on their reading record).
